Super Smash Bros. Ultimate game director Masahiro Sakurai not only revealed the game’s last DLC fighter on Tuesday, he also announced a batch of new Mii Fighters. That includes the addition of Doom’s Doom Slayer and Splatoon’s Octoling and a cat named Judd.
Plenty of Smash players were hoping that Doom’s Doom Slayer would be added to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate as an actual fighter — but it’s Kingdom Hearts’ Sora who got that role. The Mii Fighter costume for Doom Slayer is certainly better than nothing, and Doomguy can now fight alongside his best friend Isabelle.
Mii Fighter costumes have served as a way for smaller and sometimes more obscure characters to find their way into Smash Bros. In Ultimate, that has meant Nintendo characters like Isaac from Golden Sun, Toad from the Super Mario games, and Geno from Super Mario RPG, as well as third-party guest appearances from Hunters from Monster Hunter, the Vault Dweller from Fallout, Sans from Undertale, and Akira and Jacky from Virtua Fighter.
Tuesday’s livestream, “Mr. Sakurai Presents,” is the last broadcast revealing new Super Smash Bros. Ultimate characters — both Mii Fighters and DLC additions. Super Smash Bros. Ultimate was announced in March 2018, and has 82 playable characters.
