First off, we’re going to be tackling that detestable child, Prishe. I feel like doing them in order is the only way that makes sense. Prishe’s Lost Chapter can prove to be a fair challenge if your weapon pool is limited. I’m here to give you some strategies and tips on what you can do to get it done.
Prep Phase: Who to Bring
I’ll be listing units that are Valuable and Not So Valuable in this specific stage. If a unit is not on the valuable list that doesn’t mean they can’t be used effectively. They are just, in my opinion, the stand out picks.
The units in the Valuable section will be ordered from most effective down, but the Not So Valuable List is just a general list of units I do not think fare well in this stage despite what you may think. While this will cause controversy, I know units in this section will be able to clear the event. The point of this is to lay out who will give you the best shot at clearing the stage. I encourage those reading to go in the comments and let us know about your crazy team clears.
Valuable Units
Prishe – Only natural that she would be dominant here. She was already good outside of synergy and giving her that 50% stat boost makes her that much more effective. She is so good in this stage that later I will be writing a mini-section called “Clearing Prishe, Without Prishe” in order to address a big concern people had when playing this stage.
Sazh – Yes, we all know how good he is and here is no different. Strongest buffs in the game combined with higher than average uses combined with his crazy HP+ lets him rule this fight. He fits into any and every comp. Denying his greatness is a sin let’s be honest.
Eiko – The queen of all LCs reigns strong in this 3rd batch. You will never make a mistake placing the small summoner on your team. Great battery, extended buffs, and the boss is holy weak in one of its phases, amazing.
Papalymo – Very strong elemental attacker that makes use of both the mid and the final boss’ fire weakness. Paired with any buffer at all, especially Sazh, he is a great damage dealer and a prime friend unit pick.
Faris – The next 3 units fit a common theme of getting rid of the boss’ buffs. Faris does that and more which is why I feel she is the best of them. Her debuffs are strong and you really feel their effects. Dispels for days leave the boss in a single stance for a good chunk of time, allowing you to capitalize and shred him.
Balthier – Same purpose as Faris with slight differences. Team choice is very important when using the leading man due to him stealing the buffs over dispeling them. The boss’ buffs are framed and have unlimited duration, so a buffing comp doesn’t really go well with him because he’ll be stuck holding the boss’ framed buffs. Despite this, he works very well in stage.
Vanille – She is more similar to Faris, but I feel her uses are a problem. She provides great benefit on the early stages if you chose to use skills, but she kind of needs those uses to dispel the boss. Skill management is really emphasized on her over the 2 above, but she is still a fantastic choice.
Vaan – I was very surprised at Vaan’s performance on this stage. His low uses are still a hurdle you have to face, but once he gets to the boss stages he melts like no other. With the right support he can really shine. He is also probably the best friend unit option due to one head being weak to wind and one being weak to holy. Gives you a lot of flexibility on when you want to summon him.
Squall – I find him on here for similar reasons to Vaan, but not quite as good as Vaan. He’s a fantastic friend pick and mega melts Behemoth, but oddly his damage is pretty well… low against the main boss. Once he got his Def Up buff active Squall was pretty much noodling. Again tho, he is still a good option to have.
Y’shtola – She has synergy going for her and is newly buffed. With all this in combo her Medica batteries for quite a lot. Stone delay can help out a lot in the right situation. I just think there are better options than her. Mainly due to her having to stick at max brave to make the most out of her battery. Nevertheless, she is a good pick.
Tidus – Tidus really lets himself be the third pick on your squad. He fits into any comp, and I mean any. His speed lets him stay safe while his team capitalizes on his great debuffs. High use count benefits him in long fights. If you don’t know who to put in the last slot of your team, you cannot go wrong with him.
Not So Valuable Units
King – The lack of 35cp really hurts him here. While his damage can be big I feel like his kit is just blah button spam where the units above can do the job much, much better. And I’m not alone in feeling this.
Ramza – I’ll probably get hate for this, but I have to say he doesn’t offer much in this fight. He is dead weight against the earlier enemies if he doesn’t use his buffs, but if you use them early you might run out of steam hard at the end when the last set of buffs end. If you can carry him through the trash waves his buffs will help versus the boss, but why should you have to carry him through it? You are better off using someone who can pull their weight.
Zidane – I feel the need to mention him as his 35cp just came back and you might have him ready for Ramza’s LC. He is not good here. Pitiful uses, mediocre damage, meh debuffs. Zidane really leaves a lot to be desired in longer fights.
Ashe – One of the boss’ heads being weak to holy is the only thing she has going for her, and I mean only. Her short duration buffs put the nail in the coffin as she has to save her skills for the end. Even then she struggles once the boss puts up that defense buff.
The summon choice here is easily Ifrit. If you for some reason don’t have him, stop reading this immediately! Go get your butt into World of Illusions and level him up! i don’t think the summon choice needs any further explanation as he’s just all around the best summon.
Battle Phase: What to Do
Now that you’ve got your team set up it’s time to actually start the fight. Disclaimer that this is not a specific turn by turn guide on how to beat the stage. I will tell you what you’re up against and give you general tips to things like boss patterns, summon and friend timing, etc.
- Wave 1: Ice Bomb x2, Dark Skeleton
- Wave 2: Dark Skeleton x3
- Wave 3: Behemoth
- Wave 4: Miniature Magitek Armor x2
- Wave 5: Chimera Golem
Do not ask me why the previous stage has 2 Chimera Golems and this one has only 1, but this stage is still way damn harder. Also, am I the only one that thought this thing was called Stone Chimera? Well you learn something new every day! That aside, waves 1, 2, and 4 are pretty simple. AoE is your best friend here. Units like Prishe, Vanille, and even Laguna breeze through. Prioritize breaking the Skeletons and Magiteks to put them down and focus on killing the Ice Bombs in the first wave. Always keep in mind your skill usage and stay healthy!
Mid boss Behemoth is as easy as taking food away from a hungry Prishe!… Actually that would be very hard… Bad jokes aside all this big boy does is take up you time. He has no special gimmicks but make sure when you see he is targeting ALL you don’t HP attack because he’ll break you, but frankly the fight should end before then.
Final boss time. If you are familiar with normal Chimera, his attacks on each head are very similar to near identical. The main difference here is the buffs. Chimera has 3 unlimited turn framed buffs. Quick Shift lets him change heads every turn instead of every other turn. Tough Skin and Speed Calling give him Def Up and Spd Up respectively. The main thing you have to worry about is his Def Up buff. Unless you have a Dispeller this buff really hinders your damage. Experience is everything, but the advice I can give you is this:
When his Goat blue head is active, this is your time to be aggressive. He is weak to fire in this form and his attacks are relatively weak compared to the other 2 heads. When his Lion red head is active you can still be aggressive but be wary of Gaia Crush as it does a lot of bravery damage, especially when you are debuffed from his Goat heads attacks. When he goes into his Dragon yellow head be very very careful as his Sandstorm group attack will do the most damage in his entire kit plus an HP attack. While he is in this form, keep your brave relatively high and keep him broken. Once he switches off you’ll be fine to go aggressive again.
Summon timing is not so simple here. A lot of it depends on your current turn but you always want to summon on the last wave. As I said earlier you should be using Ifrit and the boss’ Goat head is weak to fire. I don’t think any team can burst him down significantly enough to make summoning early worth it. Summoning the second time he goes goat is ideal on paper, but things will vary as you might want to use it to dodge a sandstorm or save a unit’s life. Summon timing can be the easiest thing for me to explain as it could be blatantly obvious, or it could vary so much that I can’t really advise anything. Try mixing up your summon timing if you are struggling to clear the last wave.
Friend unit should also be on the last wave. As I said earlier, Papalymo, Vaan, and Squall are your best picks here by far, but units like Lightning and Prishe herself can work well. Tailor it to what you and your team needs most.
Impossible? Clearing Prishe, Without Prishe
Just a little mini-section before I close as I was asked this question a lot and many people were concerned about the difficulty of this quest without the poster girl at your side. Just fucking pull It’s really not all that hard to find success without Prishe. While I can’t cover every specific team, you need to replace what Prishe gives you: great shave and speed. Lightning can make an ideal alternative pickup, while Vanille can supplement some AoE damage if that is what you feel you need. I’ve also been told LiTiKo reigns true here. Experimentation and knowledge will get you through anything. Ask questions, try different comps. Many have found success without best girl Prishe, including me!
Conclusion
I hope this guide has helped you best the beast that is Prishe’s hunger Lost Chapter!
