The Pokémon Company debuted a new Pokémon Presents video presentation on Wednesday, revealing the latest news on upcoming Nintendo Switch games Pokémon Brilliant Diamond, Shining Pearl, and Pokémon Legends: Arceus.
But that’s not all; Pokémon fans also got updates on free-to-play MOBA Pokémon Unite, five-year-old mobile game Pokémon Go, Pokémon Masters EX, and puzzle game Pokémon Cafe Mix. Here’s the big news from the latest Pokémon Presents (which sadly does not include an update on Pokémon Sleep).
Pokémon Unite heads to mobile in September
Already available on Nintendo Switch, Pokémon Unite is headed to mobile devices (Android and iOS) on Sept. 22. The mobile version will have crossplay with the Switch version. Two more playable Pokémon are coming to Pokémon Unite as well: Mamoswine and Sylveon.
Pokémon Café Mix is getting remixed
The touch-based puzzle game for Nintendo Switch and mobile is getting revamped and renamed to Pokémon Café ReMix. The game will get new puzzle elements, additional Pokémon, and new dress-up options — and Pokémon themselves are finally allowed to eat!
What’s new in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl
The Nintendo Switch remakes of Pokémon Diamond and Pearl will be both updated and faithful to the originals. Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl will feature the originals’ minigames, like the Pokémon Super Contests, the Underground with the dowsing minigame, and your secret base. Players will also be able to customize your trainer’s outfit and even their Poké Balls with collectible stickers that add visual effects to throw animations.
Launching alongside Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl is a new Nintendo Switch Lite console, featuring Dialga and Palkia.
Pokémon Legends: Arceus will mix up battles and four Pokémon
Game Freak showed off how Pokémon battles will work in Pokémon Legends: Arceus — a definite variation on the battles we’re all familiar with. When battles begin, players will have a few different “style” options for battling in a turn-based fashion — “strong” or “agile” styles, which change statistics on specific moves, depending on situations. Likewise, some Pokémon may be able to take a few turns in a row, based on their statistics. The turn-based mechanics definitely look familiar, but the changes look intriguing.
Four new Pokémon evolutions and variations are coming to the game’s new Hisui region: Wyrdeer, Hisuian Growlithe, Hisuian Braviary, and Basculegion, a terrifying new evolution of Basculin.
