Fortnite is a getting a line of aesthetic items inspired by the Spanish luxury designer Balenciaga on Sept. 20, Epic Games announced Monday. The series, called the “Balenciaga Fit Set,” includes four new outfits in addition to a variety of other items like backpacks, pickaxes, wraps, a glider, and an emote. There will also be free Sprays, a Strange Times Featured Hub, and a live “Fortography” campaign.
The skins are inspired by “archival looks from luxury fashion house Balenciaga,” but some looks will come as products people can actually buy and wear themselves. For example, the real-life version of the white hoodie with the Fortnite logo will be available to purchase for a whopping $725. The real-life Fortnite X Balenciaga collection hits select Balenciaga stores worldwide and its website Monday (or Tuesday, depending on region).
Epic Games told Polygon that the Shady Doggo skin (the one that wears the white sweatshirt) will cost 1200 V-Bucks or roughly $8.50, which is nowhere near the $725 price tag of the real item. Beyond that sweatshirt, you’ll be able to grab some more flashy outfits, which you can check out below.
A representative from Epic shared with Polygon how much each skin will cost, noting that bundles will also be available:
- Unchained Ramirez (1500 V-Bucks)
- Fashion Banshee (1500 V-Bucks)
- Game Knight (1200 V-Bucks)
- Shady Doggo (1200 V-Bucks)
- Speed Sneaker Pickaxe (800 V-Bucks)
- Parasail Purse Glider (800 V-Bucks)
- Signature Look Wrap (300 V-Bucks)
- The Look Emote (400 V-Bucks)
The Strange Times Featured Hub creates a virtual store in line with real Balenciaga locations, except they’re set in a strange city. As you explore and try on new outfits, you’ll be able to take photos and join a live look book campaign that features players’ unique looks.
You can check out all the work that went into Fortnite’s new looks by reading a blog post at the Unreal Engine website.
These days, collaborations between luxury designers and video game studios are becoming more common. Before this, Balenciaga held its runway show in a video game, after which it released a PlayStation 5 t-shirt that cost more than a PlayStation 5. The children’s platform Roblox hosted a virtual Gucci experience complete with its line of virtual items, too.
Update: This story has been updated with pricing information for Fortnite’s in-game Balenciaga items.
