Paramount’s next A Quiet Place movie has lost its director. Sources told Deadline that Jeff Nichols (Mud, Midnight Special) has dropped out of the film. The split was described as amicable.
The site’s sources said Nichols is now shifting his focus to an untitled sci-fi movie, which he is developing with Paramount, so the film studio is keeping the director on board in another capacity. The studio is “very high on” this new film, the report said.
According to Deadline, Paramount is looking to “act fast” to find a replacement for Nichols, in part because of the ongoing hype surrounding the A Quiet Place series. The long-delayed sequel finally released earlier this year to much success critically and commercially and a video game was just announced. However, no potential names for a new director were mentioned in the report.
The first two A Quiet Place movies were directed by John Krasinski, who became famous for portraying Jim on The Office. The third movie is a spin-off based on an idea from Krasinski, but that is all that is known at this point.
Krasinski, who starred in the original movie and flashback scenes in the sequel, will not come back for the spinoff, and nor will his partner in real life and in the movie, Emily Blunt.
That being said, Krasinski remains attached to the spinoff as a producer.
