Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, remakes of the 2006 classics, will get a day-one update. The patch will update the game to version 1.1.0, and Nintendo recommends downloading it before starting the game. It will require 3 GB of space. If you downloaded the game from the Nintendo eShop, you won’t need to download a separate update.
According to the patch notes (below), the update adds online communication features for Grand Underground, Super Contest Show, and Union Room, and allows you to receive gifts using the Mystery Gift feature. It also adds more playable content like Ramanas Park that opens up after you enter the Hall of Fame, adds more in-game cutscenes and animations, and packs various bug fixes.
The patch notes also tease another update to come sometime after release, which will increase the maximum number of players who can battle and trade in the Union Room, as well as add GWS trading in Jubilife City and the Colosseum feature in Pokemon Centers.
The games leaked early for some fans who received physical copies, so the internet has been rife with early info on what has and hasn’t changed for these remakes. If you’d rather be surprised, tread lightly around Pokemon fan communities. Since the patch is going live tomorrow, November 11, those early leakers may get early access to the patch as well. Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl officially release on November 19.

Some in-game cutscenes and animations will be added in the update, including the game’s ending cutscene and the title screen animation that is played when opening the software.- Note: you can view the title screen animation by starting up the software with existing save data and with the update installed. Even if you have already entered the Hall of Fame before the update is installed, you can view the ending cutscene by entering the Hall of Fame again afterwards.
- Other adjustments and corrections were made to improve the gameplay experience.
- Regarding a planned update after release
On the release date for the software, up to two players will be able to interact in local and online play in the Union Room, and you will be able to select the “Battle”, “Trade” and “Mix Records” functions. In an update that will be made available after the software releases, the maximum number of players will be increased, and the “Greeting” and “Capsule Decoration” functions will become available.
Additionally, trading using the GWS in Jubilife City and the use of the Colosseum feature inside Pokémon Centers will also be added in a post-release update.
