Mike Myers returns to TV with a brand-new series from Netflix that asks the question, “What if there was a secret society that has controlled every major historical event since the Black Plague?” The mystical and enigmatic Pentaverate are five men who control world events, and it’s up to one Canadian reporter to expose their influence.
In typical Myers fashion, the malleable actor will play eight new characters, including a member of the Penaverate itself as well as the reporter out to reveal their identity to the world.
Myers will be joined by Keegan-Michael Key, Ken Jeong, Debi Mazar, Richard McCabe, Lydia West, and Jennifer Saunders played dual roles as well. The trailer gives off a certain ’80s sci-fi aesthetics like Running Man, Cyborg, and some Fifth Element sprinkled in between.
The Penatverate will be six episodes, with about a 30-minute runtime each. It’ll be directed by Tim Kirkby, a noted television director who has worked on HBO’s Veep, Amazon Prime’s Fleabag, and Netflix’s own Grace and Frankie.
This will be Myers’ return to television after five years, with his last project being a reboot of the 1970s classic The Gong Show, where Myers played a new character named Tommy Maitland, and actually went uncredited in the first season. The revival was co-produced by Will Arnett and was quietly canceled in 2018.
The Pentaverate premieres on Netflix on May 5.
