During the ongoing Johnny Depp and Amber Heard trial, Heard claimed that her role and participation in the upcoming Aquaman sequel had been significantly “pared down.” Heard had originally signed on for a three-picture deal alongside Jason Momoa in Aquaman as Mera, and made a quick appearance in the Justice League movie reprising her role.
The third picture is Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, a sequel scheduled to be released in 2023, but Heard said she’s hardly in it now, adding that she fought to stay in the movie and even claiming Warner Bros. didn’t want to include her in the film.
“I was given a script and then given new versions of the script that had taken away scenes that had action in it, that depicted my character and another character, without giving any spoiler away, two characters fighting with one another, and they basically took a bunch out of my role,” Heard said (via Variety). “They just removed a bunch out.”
Both Depp and Heard have allegedly lost work over the past few years from the fallout of their relationship, which involves numerous abuse allegations. Depp was removed from the Fantastic Beasts franchise as malevolent mage Grindelwald and replaced by Mads Mikkelsen. Depp’s testimony also revealed that he had been dropped from a potential sixth Pirates of the Caribbean movie. Producer Jerry Bruckheimer was recently quoted as saying there are no plans to bring Depp back “at this point.”
Heard’s statements about losing work came just on the third day of her testimony in Depp’s defamation trial against her, while Depp is counter-suing Heard over the infamous 2018 Washington Post op-ed she wrote.
