Assassin’s Creed Discovery Tour: Viking Age, the free-roam education and exploration mode for Assassin’s Creed Valhalla that Ubisoft announced during E3 2021, is available today.
Like Discovery Tours for 2017’s Assassin’s Creed Origins and 2018’s Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, Viking Age is both a free expansion for those who already own Valhalla, and is a stand-alone purchase for Windows PC. It’s available from Ubisoft Connect and the Epic Games Store.
Assassin’s Creed Discovery Tour: Viking Age will also launch in early 2022 for Google Stadia and Amazon Luna, Ubisoft said.
The mode removes all of the combat and any objectionable content (nudity, mostly) from the base game, allowing it to be used as an educational tool in classrooms studying this period of world history. This Discovery Tour, however, will place players in the roles of different characters, and give them quests to complete, connecting them more with the educational message inside.
Ubisoft said this Tour, like the others, was also developed with input from historians and archaeologists. Viking Age will feature Discovery Sites players can explore to learn more about the culture and traditions of Vikings and Anglo-Saxons in ninth-century England and Norway. The Discovery Sites were developed in partnership with six museums in three nations — England, France, and Denmark.
