As if Brendan Fraser wasn’t busy enough, the re-emerging actor has picked up a new role. Fraser will appear in the HBO Max Batgirl film as the pyromaniac villain Firefly, Deadline reports.
Fraser’s casting is unconfirmed per Deadline, but if true will be the fourth member to join the cast. Leslie Grace will star as Barbara Gordon/Batgirl, and J.K. Simmons will reprise his role of Commissioner Gordon from Justice League. Jacob Scipio (Bad Boys for Life) has also been cast in an unknown role. Plot details for the film are still under wraps at this time. Bad Boys for Life co-directors Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah will direct a script written by Christina Hodson.
This will be Fraser’s second role in the DCU as well as his second on HBO Max. He also stars as Cliff Steele/Robotman on the HBO Max series Doom Patrol, which is currently on Season 3 and has been renewed for Season 4. Fraser joins a small group of actors who have appeared in multiple roles in DC’s live-action universe, including Jay Lycurgo, who appears as Tim Drake in Titans Season 3 on HBO Max, and as a gang member in Matt Reeves’ The Batman; Mark Strong also appeared as Sinestro in 2011’s Green Lantern and as Dr. Sivana in Shazam.
Fraser himself is a very busy guy right now. Apart from Batgirl and Doom Patrol, the actor appeared in No Sudden Move, and will be appearing in The Whale, Killers of the Flower Moon, Behind the Curtain of Night, and Brothers.
DC has not yet announced a release date for the Batgirl movie, which will also be the first DC film to debut exclusively on HBO Max without a theatrical run.
