A follow-up to Grasshopper’s 2016 Let It Die, DeathVerse: Let It Die is a wacky spin on the battle royale genre, announced Wednesday during Sony’s State of Play presentation. Publisher GungHo Games, in a news release published Wednesday, described the game as a “survival battle arena” where players fight against each other and environmental elements in an in-game reality game show called Death Jamboree.

Basically, it sounds like a spin on the battle royale genre that’s set in a bizarre, violent world. In the two-minute trailer, developer Supertrick Games showed off a bunch of ridiculous characters — like space punks, cartoons, and astronauts. Apparently, there are no rules, and judging by the chaos on screen, that seems to line up.

Here’s what Supertrick has to say about the story, and how it fits into Suda51’s Let It Die:

Set hundreds of years after the events of LET IT DIE, DEATHVERSE: LET IT DIE brings players into the world of smash-hit reality show ‘DEATH JAMBOREE.’ Hosted by the charismatic Bryan Zemeckis, with commentary from former Champion Queen B, the MCs’ personalities are just as colorful as the bloodstained stage. While it’s well known that DEATH JAMBOREE is produced by the enigmatic Yotsuyama Broadcasting Company, the show’s past is steeped in mystery and led by a cabal of shadowy figures.

It’s time to master your favorite weapon, captivate fans with showstopping moves, and gain the admiration of a global audience to become a rising star.

Supertrick showed in the trailer that players will be able to make new, more involved weapons in subsequent competitions, using a robot unit named Wilson who’s basically your best friend.

No word on how many players will be able to jump into DeathVerse matches together. It’s expected out on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 in 2022.
