Destiny 2’s fourth major expansion, The Witch Queen, is coming on Feb. 22, 2022. Bungie announced the expansion’s release date — as well as new features, story, and destinations — at its Destiny Showcase event on Tuesday.

The Witch Queen’s story will follow Guardians as they interact with Savathun, the expansion’s titular character. Outside of being the sister of Oryx — the villain of the original Destiny’s The Taken King expansion — and the aunt of Crota, Savathun is largely a mystery. She’s played key roles behind the scenes in Destiny for years, but her trickster nature keeps her out of the limelight. The Witch Queen will change that, although it’s unclear if she’ll have the same antagonistic relationship with Guardians that her brother and nephew had.

The Witch Queen will add at least one major location to Destiny 2: Savathun’s Throneworld. Players will delve into a different dimension that acts as Savathun’s ultimate backup plan. There, they’ll discover the “truth” about the Light and the Darkness that Guardians have been fighting for and against the entire series.

Weapon crafting will make an appearance in The Witch Queen. Bungie hasn’t revealed much about the system, but players will be able to create their own. Players will upgrade their weapons and grow them over time. The Witch Queen also adds a new Energy weapon type: the Glaive. The Glaive is a long spear-like polearm with a curved blade on the end, and the game’s only first-person melee weapon. It can also shoot energy projectiles.

Bungie initially announced The Witch Queen in last year’s Destiny Showcase — alongside the future of the series and the Destiny Content Vault — but delayed it to 2022 earlier this year. The Witch Queen will arrive simultaneously for Google Stadia, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Windows PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X on Feb. 22 — all of which will have both cross-play and cross-save enabled by launch.
