The latest live-action adaptation of a Disney ride is Jungle Cruise. On Thursday night, the movie grossed $2.7 million according to a report from The Hollywood Reporter.

Jungle Cruise stars Dwayne Johnson as a riverboat captain Frank Wolff and Emily Blunt as researcher Dr. Lily Houghton as the duo are on a trek throughout the Amazon. They’re come upon some dangers within the rainforest, some unsavory characters, and beautiful scenery–like the backside of water.

This is the second live-action Disney movie to hit theaters this year, with Cruella making $1.4 million during previews. However, it’s important to note that movie theaters were slowly reopening during that time. Additionally, both movies are available to watch on Disney+ Premier Access. Cruella ended up making $221 million worldwide during its theatrical run.

Jungle Cruise is tracking to make $30 million over the course of the weekend, and it could make an additional $40 million from overseas. However, with the Delta variant of COVID-19 surging in many states, it’s unknown how that will affect theater-going in the upcoming week.

In other Disney ride adaptation news, Tiffany Haddish and Lakeith Stanfield are in talks to make a new Haunted Mansion movie. If the two sign on, Stanfield would play a widower who is a tour guide in New Orleans’ French Quarter who once believed in the supernatural, while Haddish would play a psychic.
