When night rolls in on the city of Villedor in Dying Light 2, the small pockets of humans left retreat indoors, protected by UV lamps. However, players shouldn’t feel compelled to play by the same rules. Nighttime is full of opportunities for anyone looking to earn a ton of crafting supplies, valuables that can be sold, XP, and more. Here’s what you can do at night in Dying Light 2.

Explore the dark

Dark Zones are packed with consumables, crafting supplies, and more.

While the infected largely stay indoors during the day, they’re out in greater numbers at night. However, that also means that their nests, packed full of valuable loot, are ripe for the picking. Called Dark Zones, these areas still have to be approached with a reasonable amount of caution, but can leave you with a wealth of crafting supplies and more.

Dark Zones are often packed with supplies, valuables, and Inhibitors, along with resting zombies. You’ll have to sneak past them unless you want to get into a close-quarters fight with five or more of the infected. You can quickly unaware infected enemies with takedowns, though avoiding them entirely is your best bet. But most importantly, you’ll have to be quick whenever you’re inside a Dark Zone. While there aren’t many undead inside at night, once it turns day again, they’ll return, making escape nearly impossible without combat. Be sure to get out of a Dark Zone before the sun rises again.

Dark Zones aren’t the only areas that can be tackled at night though. Here are all of the nighttime activities available in Dying Light 2:

  • GRE Anomaly Zones: Mini-boss fights that award you with crafting materials and Inhibitors.
  • Metro Stations: Unlockable fast travel points located across Villedor.
  • Dark Zones: Infected-infested buildings packed with loot.
  • Side quests: Some side quests in Dying Light 2 can only be played at night, and can reward players with weapons or consumables along with XP.

Attack Anomalies

Defeat GRE Anomalies to unlock a cache of GRE supplies, including Inhibitors.

While you’re exploring the city of Villedor, you’ll likely come across areas called GRE Anomalies. During the day, these areas are clearly arenas for big fights, but there isn’t an enemy to swing your club at. Come back at night and you’ll find a special undead, in some cases a Revenant, who you’ll have to defeat to unlock a cache of GRE supplies.

The unlocked cache won’t contain too much, but among the crafting equipment and rare weapons, you’ll find a supply of Inhibitors. Since these fights aren’t usually too hard, they’re a great, repeatable way to earn inhibitors every time night comes around in Dying Light 2.

Ride the metro

Metro stations can only be activated by turning on their generators.

While getting around the city of Villedor via rooftop is pretty quick, fast travel is always quicker. Unfortunately, the city’s metro stations are packed to the brim with the undead during the day. At night, they leave though, giving you the opportunity to take back a metro station to use as a fast travel point.

You’ll still have to do a decent bit of sneaking around since metro stations are essentially Dark Zones, but there’s much more space to climb around and avoid the undead altogether. After firing up the generators located in a metro station, you’ll be able to travel to it instantly regardless of where you are on the map.

Earn some extra XP

If you’re out at night in Villedor and don’t really have anything to do, that’s perfectly fine. In fact, the game will reward you for simply playing as if it were still light out. You get a bonus on any XP you earn while the sun is down, meaning even the simplest of things, like jumping from one building to another or killing a few zombies, can earn you loads of experience.

Of course, you still have to be careful. Fighting zombies can easily become overwhelming at night, when the undead are out in greater numbers. Howlers can also call hordes of faster zombies on you in an instant, starting a chase. And while chases are great for earning parkour XP quickly, there’s a significant risk there as well, since dying at night means losing all of the extra XP you earned.

Regardless of what you’re doing at night in Dying Light 2, you’ll have to fight off your zombie infection with UV Shroomz.
