Season 9 of Call of Duty Mobile gears up for Halloween with the upcoming Nightmare event, which arrives on October 21 at 5 PM PT / 8 PM ET. Activision has released the holiday event details in a new blog that showcases a new weapon, spooky modes, a new battle pass, and more.
Trick-or-Treat Event
Nightmare’s Trick-or-Treat event is vaguely detailed as an event that awards candy for completing in-game tasks. Earning candy grants event XP, which progresses players through event tiers for rewards.
Nightmare Battle Pass
As usual, the new battle pass will include free and premium items like more operators, a new weapon, and plenty of cosmetics. Most importantly, Nightmare adds a new operator skill and gun within the free tiers of the battle pass. At tier 14, players will unlock the new Tak-5 operator skill, which gives the ability to heal teammates. At tier 21, players unlock the Swordfish rifle. There are also a few cosmetic items in the free tiers.
New Multiplayer Maps
Hovec Sawmill at night
A Halloween-themed variant of the Standoff map comes to Call of Duty Mobile for the Nightmare update. This holiday reskin brings a nighttime setting to Standoff, as well as plenty of Halloween decorations. Also, Modern Warfare 2019’s Hovec Sawmill map makes its Call of Duty Mobile debut, but the mobile version is set at night for this holiday event.
New Multiplayer Modes
Drop Zone, which was first introduced in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, requires teams to battle for control of a designated drop zone that rotates throughout the match. The only way to earn scorestreaks in Drop Zone is by holding the zone, prompting care package rewards to drop onto the map. The Nightmare update also brings the thematic 10v10 Pumpkin Confirmed mode, which is likely just like standard Kill Confirmed but with pumpkins to collect instead of dog tags.
Zombies Returns
Currently, Zombies mode is locked in Call of Duty Mobile, but the game’s Undead Siege mode will return with the Nightmare update. Undead Siege will also have a new Halloween theme, and players will face off against even more zombie types in the casual mode.
Battle Royale
Spooky stuff will also arrive in Call of Duty Mobile’s battle royale mode. The mode’s main map, Isolated, is getting a night mode, and zombie scares are being teased for the Blackout map. A new class ability was also teased for battle royale. The Pumped class will arrive in a future event, and this gives players a jetpack to navigate the map. This should make gunfights a lot more interesting with players boosting around.
Clan Wars Updates
Season 9 doesn’t have a brand-new Clan Wars season, but the update brings changes to the system. First, currency will be reset to zero and store items will start to rotate out. Additionally, items are easier to obtain this season and in upcoming ones with significantly increased Clan Wars currency rewards. More updates and new Clan Wars rewards will arrive in Season 10.
Call of Duty Mobile isn’t the only game getting the Halloween treatment; Call of Duty’s Haunting event starts October 19 for Black Ops Cold War and Warzone.
All of this Call of Duty content continues as Activision Blizzard faces a lawsuit from the state of California over alleged harassment and discrimination against women.
