Netflix is making an animated Tomb Raider series and it’s found its Lara Croft in Marvel actress Hayley Atwell. The streaming service announced on Monday that Atwell will voice the character in the upcoming series, but that was pretty much the only detail it offered.
The Tomb Raider animated series will actually be a sequel to the recent reboot trilogy, picking up after the events of the last game, Shadow of the Tomb Raider. Unfortunately, the end of that game only teased that Lara would go on other adventures in the future, so what this series is about is anyone’s guess.
Atwell has previously played Agent Peggy Carter in both Captain America: The First Avenger, Agent Carter, and a variety of other Marvel series, including the animated What If?. Atwell will also appear in Mission Impossible 7, which is set to be released next year. In the video game trilogy, Camilla Luddington (Grey’s Anatomy) voiced Lara Croft.
Netflix’s animated Tomb Raider series will be executive produced and written by Tasha Huo (The Witcher: Blood Origin). The production will also include dj2 Entertainment, one of the production companies behind last year’s Sonic the Hedgehog movie.
Netflix hasn’t announced a release date for the series.
