During the Doomsday Heist update in GTA Online, Rockstar Games decided to give players a side mission to complete. This side mission was meant to coincide with the upcoming release of Red Dead Redemption 2, as the studio had just released a trailer for the critically-acclaimed western open-world game. In essence, the mission was a treasure hunt, which is exactly what it’s called in-game. Players start the mission by opening an email on their phone. They can then look through images that offer clues as to where they can find the treasure they’re seeking.
While this sounds like an enjoyable experience, many players have struggled with finding the exact spots the clues are pointing to in GTA Online. To make matters worse, there are 20 total spots along the treasure hunt that players need to visit in the order they receive them. The game will randomize the order the locations come in for each player. At the end of this hunt, they’ll get some neat rewards and a look back at a time before Red Dead Redemption 2 was released.
Below, players can find the location of all 20 clues and the rewards they’ll receive upon completing the Treasure Hunt mission.
Completing Treasure Hunt
To start the Treasure Hunt mission, players simply need to enter a GTA Online lobby and wait for an email from [email protected]. Of course, if you’ve played at all since this mission was released, you will have already received this email in all likelihood. After starting the Treasure Hunt side mission, players can begin their quest. As previously stated, the locations are random for each player, so we’ll go over a generic order of all 20 locations found in Treasure Hunt.

1. Del Perro Pier
This clue can be found attached to one of the pillars underneath the Del Perro Pier. It’s located in the middle of the pillars. The clue will be a piece of paper attached to the pillar.

2. Cassidy Creek @ Mount Josiah
You might need a helicopter or plane to make this clue easier to find. It’s located on a smaller section of Mount Josiah attached to a rock.

3. Vinewood Hills
Located in the center of Vinewood Hills off a road near the Galileo Observatory. Find the yellow Truck Stand that features a scenic overlook of Baytree Canyon View. The clue is physically on the Baytree Canyon View board at this location.

4. Pacific Bluffs Graveyard
The clue in the graveyard is found on the western side on a large grave sticking out of the ground. It’s found directly off of a small road going through the graveyard on the right side.

5. Tongva Hills
Between the two vineyards of Tongva Hills, the clue is located underneath a bridge with a river running under it. It’s on a rock directly under the bridge.

6. San Chianski Mountain Range
Located off the mountain range on the ocean’s side, this clue is located on the large rock formation next to the docks and boathouse. The clue will be attached to a wooden pole in the center of this rock formation in a dirt area.

7. Great Chaparral Church
Located on a small grave outside of the church but still inside the white fence. The grave is located just before the white fence behind the church. The clue’s grave is found right next to two above-ground coffins.

8. Cassidy Creek
The clue is found along the riverbank of Cassidy Creek, right near Mount Josiah. Find it attached to a tree along the river but below the trail.

9. Tataviam Mountains
On the very outskirts of the mountains and the adjacent road near the ocean, the clue is located right underneath the land with several trees on it. It’s found attached to a boulder that supports the land with the trees on it.

10. Alamo Sea
On the south side of the Alamo Sea in Sandy Shores, there’s a piece of land that juts out into the water. The clue is found at the very end of this land attached to a rock right after the piece of concrete that’s tilted upwards.

11. Grand Senora Desert
Located southwest of the airstrip in the desert. Look for the clue on the outside door of an underground bunker.

12. San Chianski Mountain Range #2
At the northern part of the mountain range, look for the clue atop the mountains attached to a cross in the ground. Using a helicopter or other aerial vehicle will help with this clue.

13. Los Santos Golf Club
At the Golf Club, go to the middle water formation that’s found on the map. Here, you can find the clue on the white bridge attached to an entrance pole.

14. Pacific Ocean
Northwest of Los Santos Internation, there is a peninsula that juts out into the water. This clue can be found on this peninsula. It will be located on the beach attached to the underside of a rock.

15. Paleto Bay
On the north side of Paleto Bay, the clue is found in the middle section of a broken bridge on the lower beach, outside of the shopping center. It can be found directly in the broken area of the bridge attached to a wooden pole.

16. Great Chapparal
Located in the middle of a winding section of roads in Great Chapparal. Go up a hill to a large boulder on the cliffside but stop at the road underneath it. Then, go off the road to a section of trees and search for the clue attached to a tall wooden pole sticking out of the ground.

17. Sandy Shores
On the eastern side of Sandy Shores, go past the main highway and the alien playground. On top of the mountain overlooking the playground is where you can find this blue. Look on the scenic overlook spot on top of the mountain.

18. Mount Chiliad
As expected, you’ll need an aerial vehicle of some kind. The clue is found in the center of Chiliad, to the north of the cable car area. You want to essentially go to the top of Chiliad and search on the brown board on the wooden platform.

19. Two Hoots Falls
In Tonga Hills, you can go past the river and the vineyards to find a waterfall with a small dirt road that connects itself near it. The clue here will be on the Two Hoots Falls sign in the middle of this small road.

20. Sandy Shores #2
In the center of Sandy Shores, find this clue in the middle of the desert near two boulders. The clue will be on the western rock formation, attached to the boulder on its lower side. It will be along the path with the wooden fence.

After all of that, your final note will tell you that the treasure has been moved because it tore apart a family. This will then send you to three specific locations on the map, which are fairly easy to find. Once you find all three locations, one final one will be marked on your map. This area will have a small briefcase, which you can open to find a gold Double-Action Revolver from Red Dead Redemption II along with $250,000.
