Netflix has released the first trailer for Murderville, a fun look at a promising new comedic/semi-unscripted series that reimagines procedural crime shows. The six-episode limited series hits the streaming service on February 3.
The show’s official synopsis explains Murderville’s premise perfectly: “Meet Senior Detective Terry Seattle (Will Arnett), Homicide Division. For Terry, every day means a new murder case and a new celebrity guest star as his partner. But here’s the catch: each episode’s guest star isn’t being given the script. They have no idea what’s about to happen to them. Together, the guest star and Terry Seattle will have to improvise their way through the case… but it will be up to each celebrity guest alone to name the killer.” Adapted from the BBC3 series Murder in Successville, the American version will feature guest stars including Annie Murphy, Conan O’Brien, Ken Jeong, Kumail Nanjiani, Marshawn Lynch, and Sharon Stone.
As the trailer above shows, Murderville is basically a mash-up of Law & Order and Whose Line Is It Anyway
In addition to Arnett and beyond the celebrity guest, other ensemble members include Haneefah Wood as chief Rhonda Jenkins-Seattle, Lilan Bowden as medical examiner Amber Kang, and Phillip Smithey as detective Darren “Daz” Phillips. Murderville is written by Anna Drezen, Chadd Gindin, Craig Rowin, Jack Kukoda, Marina Cockenberg, Kerry O’Neill, Hannah Levy, and Adriana Robles. Krister Johnson serves as showrunner, writer, and executive producer.
