Netflix’s gaming experiment is finally ready for you to play. Today, the streaming giant announced the launch of Netflix Games, with five titles available for users of its Android app on mobile. The games include Stranger Things: 1984, Stranger Things 3, Shooting Hoops, Card Blast, and Teeter Up — a collection of idle diversions accompanied by a Stranger Things double header, and the first step in what Netflix says is a grand plan for games on the service.
In a blog post, Netflix detailed how its new games section will work. Games will be listed in a dedicated row or category, just like all other Netflix content, and is included as a part of the basic subscription, with no extra fees, advertising, or in-app purchases. Games can be played by multiple users on the same account, as long as the device limit is not exceeded. (This can be anywhere from one to four screens simultaneously, depending on your subscription tier.) Netflix notes that while some games will require an Internet connection, “others will be available offline,” and, perhaps curiously, that games are not permitted on kids’ accounts.
Tuesday’s launch is extremely in line with what was made public during its limited test last August, and while the initial lineup seems paltry, the company wants to signal that it’s just getting started and interested in designing games “for any level of play and every kind of player.” Perhaps we’ll see more of what the company means by that when it reveals what it has the newly-acquired Oxenfree developers working on.
No word yet on when to expect any further titles or platforms.
