Ric Flair has been reportedly released by WWE. Fightful has reported that the 16-time World Champion requested and was granted his release from the company. Gamespot has reached out to WWE for comment. Flair re-signed with WWE last year but hasn’t been seen on weekly TV for months. The last time he was used, Flair was part of an angle with Lacy Evans and his daughter, Charlotte with Flair having a relationship with Evans.
Flair came back to WWE in 2012, following a couple of years wrestling in TNA after his legendary “retirement” match against Shawn Michaels at WrestleMania 24. While he had some moments in TNA as part of Fortune–which had future WWE Champion AJ Styles as being Flair’s protoge–his return seemed inevitable and helped his rising star daughter on route to be a multi-time Women’s Champion.
The two-time WWE Hall of Famer is a living legend, but also the latest in the string of firings from WWE just in the past few months. Last week, former WWE and Universal Champion Bray Wyatt was released from the company after being off television and leaving the role of a spooky split personality to Alexa Bliss (who has also put her Twitter on lock from fans who were blaming her for Bray’s release).
Flair could be an interesting addition to wherever he lands as wrestling is at a very exciting time right now with cross-promotions going on left and right–outside of WWE of course, as they’re still very much their own island.
