Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic is coming back. Aspyr Media is remaking BioWare and LucasArts’ classic Star Wars role-playing game for PlayStation 5 and Windows PC, the developer revealed Thursday at Sony’s PlayStation Showcase. Sony Interactive Entertainment will publish the remake on PS5.

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic – Remake is “completely rebuilt from the ground up,” Aspyr said in a news release. Development of the remake is being led by “a newly created team composed of industry veterans at developer and publisher Aspyr, working in close collaboration with Lucasfilm Games.”

Aspyr is known for its work on creating Mac ports of Windows games and for reviving classic games for consoles and mobile devices — games like Star Wars: Republic Commando, Jedi Knight 2: Jedi Outcast, and Star Wars Episode I: Racer. But the new version of KOTOR appears to be more than just a current-day port with modern conveniences.

Earlier this year Aspyr was acquired by Embracer Group, the company formerly known as THQ Nordic AB and owner of Gearbox Software.

The original Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic was released in 2003 for the original Xbox, and it was later ported to PC and mobile platforms. A sequel, Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic 2 – The Sith Lords, was developed by Obsidian Entertainment and released in 2004. Over the past two decades, Knights of the Old Republic has remained a beloved favorite, and it continues to be referenced by popular Star Wars media.
