Determining the best cars in Forza Horizon 5 is no simple task. There are more than 500 cars, trucks, buggies, and more in the game at launch, with more sure to follow in the weeks to come. While we haven’t gotten behind the wheel of every single car just yet, we’ve paid close attention to which cars may work best across the game’s various modes and activities and have come up with this list–sure to evolve over time–of the best cars in Forza Horizon 5. From offroading among the dunes to speeding through the tight city streets, here are seven great cars to suit any mood in Forza.

The Best Offroad Car In Forza Horizon 5: 2016 Jeep Trailcat

“Life, uh, finds a way.”

There are many great offroad vehicles in Forza Horizon 5, but none have impressed as much as the Trailcat. Its 6.2 speed is the best in its class, and pairs well with its 5.5 acceleration and perfect-10 offroad ability. Plus, you can apply this Jurassic Park livery, which doesn’t improve it functionally but it does look pretty sweet. If it’s the terrain you need to climb, this one can reach up high like a brachiosaurus.

The Best Drift Car In Forza Horizon 5: 1965 Ford “Hoonicorn” Mustang

“My horn can pierce the sky.”

We covered how to drift in Forza Horizon 5 in a lengthier guide all of its own–since many folks do struggle with Drift Zones–but we want to also single out the Hoonicorn here as the best drift car in the game right now. It’s definitely too slippery to cruise around in, but if you’re focusing on drifting challenges, this monster is worth every one of its 500,000 credits. It’s the fastest way to three-star every drifting challenge in Mexico.

The Best Car For Exploration In Forza Horizon 5: 2008 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X GSR (Welcome Pack Edition)

“Where we’re going, we don’t need roads.”

This enhanced version of the game’s base model Lancer Evo is arguably the Forza Horizon 5’s most versatile car of all. With its tuned-up speed and offroad tires, it can manage to at least two-star most PR Stunts, and when you’re seeking Bonus Boards and other open-world secrets, the Evo can move from pavement to dirt with total control. Note that you’ll need the Welcome Pack, though you can find a well-made player tuning for the normal version that will ride just about as well.

The Best Novelty Car In Forza Horizon 5: 1963 VW Type 2 De Luxe

“Zoinks!”

You don’t buy this classic VW van because you want to speed around the landscape. You buy it because you want to impress passers-by with the many awesome fan-made liveries already available. I went for the classic Scooby-Doo Mystery Machine look, but in the livery store you’ll also find paint jobs celebrating SpongeBob, Pac-Man, and more. Sadly, there’s no DHARMA van yet. I guess I’ll have to do it myself.

The Best Muscle Car In Forza Horizon 5: 2009 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1

“Speed? I am speed.”

There are three classes of muscle cars in Forza Horizon 5–modern muscle, retro muscle, and classic muscle. While the latter two categories offer plenty of iconic rides, if you’re talking about performance, not one of them can really compete with the modern muscle cars. They’re just made better today. Among those modern beasts, the Corvette ZR1 stands as the fastest (7.8) and overall best in its class (S1 809).

The Best Street Racing Car In Forza Horizon 5: 2019 Porsche 911 Carrera S

“Ask any racer. Any real racer. It don’t matter if you win by an inch or a mile. Winning’s winning.”

If you’re looking to get ahead at the Horizon Festival’s officially sanctioned street racing events, look no further than the 911 Carrera. It offers the best overall stats from speed to handling to acceleration, which are all critical in the game’s street racing circuit. The only downside is it’s on the small side, so you won’t be able to fit your whole family in the car.

The Best Car Overall In Forza Horizon 5: 2019 Aston Martin Valhalla Concept Car

“My destiny is mine to weave.”

Unless you’re taking the Valhalla offroad, it’s our pick for the best overall car in the game. It’ll cost more than one million credits, but it’s a small price to pay for a car with the speed and acceleration to master every Danger Sign and Speed Trap, but also has the handling and braking power to perfect every Speed Zone. It’s great in road races and nimble enough for virtually everything at a three-star level.

If you need more Forza car lists, we’ve also broken down the fastest cars in Forza Horizon 5 and the most expensive cars in Forza Horizon 5. Don’t buckle your seatbelt without our beginner’s guide too.
