Players in GTA Online have the option to get around Los Santos in a variety of ways. From taking a luxury car to flying overhead in a fighter jet, the sky is the limit. If players want to truly take to the skies, though, they can also purchase a plane, which has several different varieties in GTA Online.
Planes are one of the most popular forms of transportation amongst online players. While cars are still the dominant choice for collectors, having a hangar full of planes is also a common trend among veteran GTA Online players. Of course, if players want to get to that point, or just want to figure out what plane they should purchase, they can read below for a full rundown of the best planes in GTA Online.
It should be noted, we’re only going to include traditional planes and not jets. We went over the top jets to purchase in a previous guide.
Best Planes in GTA Online
Since there are dozens of planes currently available in GTA Online, we’ll only be going over the top five that players can purchase as of April 2022. The planes will mostly be categorized by speed, handling, price, and functionality.
Western Company Mallard

The Western Company Mallard is one of the most popular planes that players will see in the skies of Los Santos. It’s arguably the most underrated plane in GTA Online, featuring terrific speed and handling. However, its most attractive quality, and the reason why it’s on this list, is its price. The Mallard comes in at $250,000, which is shockingly low for the kind of vehicle players are receiving in return. For players looking to buy their first plane but don’t want to break the bank, the Western Company Mallad is arguably the best choice.
Western Company Rogue

Sticking with the Western Company brand, the Rogue comes in next. Unlike the Mallard, the Rogue fetches a much higher price but for good reason. It’s one of the fastest planes in GTA Online, reaching a top speed of nearly 220 miles per hour. Of course, this means the Rogue won’t be as easy to handle as something like the Mallard but players likely won’t notice when they’re soaring through the Los Santos skies at a blazing speed.
The Rogue goes for nearly $1.6 million but this can be reduced by completing the 6 Air Freight Cargo Missions. If players complete these missions, they can drop the price of the Rogue to $1.2 million.
B-11 Strikeforce

If players are looking for a plane with a full kit of weapons at its disposal, look no further than the B-11 Strikeforce. This plane is surprisingly fast and comes with multiple weapons that players can use to wreak havoc on the streets below or in the sky. Of course, with the Strikeforce featuring so many capabilities, players can expect to open up their wallets in order to purchase it. The B-11 Strikeforce will cost players $3.8 million, making it one of the most expensive planes in GTA Online.
Nagasaki Ultralight

Buying a plane in GTA Online doesn’t have to be a serious affair. If players want, they can purchase the Nagasaki Ultralight and have some enjoyable moments in the sky. This “plane” is more of a glider that players can use to soar across the map of Los Santos without even turning on the small engine located in the back of its hull. Players can purchase the Ultralight for $600,000, which is a reasonable price to pay for a true marvel of engineering.
Volatol

This is one of the most eccentric planes in GTA Online. It’s based on the Avro Vulcan bomber, meaning its main job is to fly through the skies without being detected. This job is sometimes difficult to accomplish in GTA Online, though, seeing as the Volatol is a giant of a vehicle. This massive plane that features two turrets and a sleek frame will cost players $3.724 million. If players want to purchase this monster, they’d better have a large aircraft hangar.
Mammoth Avenger

The house with wings in GTA Online. The Mammoth Avenger is a hybrid helicopter and plane that players mainly purchase for its customizable features. The Avenger can be outfitted with a workshop for both weapons and vehicles. This allows players to work on their weapons or vehicles while in the sky and not have to come down to their own workshop on the ground.
As players would expect, all of this upgradability is going to increase the price of the plane significantly. A fully upgraded Mammoth Avenger will cost players around $6 million, with the base price coming in at anywhere from $3.4-4.7 million.
Western Company Besra

Western Company is back with the fastest accelerating plane in GTA Online. The Besra features blistering acceleration paired with amazing handling to make racing a breeze. Players can fit in tight spaces and then maneuver out of them with absolute ease using the Besra. $1.15 million is the cost of the Western Company Besra, which isn’t a horrible deal considering what players receive in return.
LF-22 Starling

The final plane on this list is perhaps the most versatile. The LF-22 Starling is a military plane that features two machine guns and a rocket boost with a duration of 20-seconds. So while its base speed isn’t faster than other planes in GTA Online, using the rocket boost allows the Starling to reach top speeds fairly easily. The military plane is also customizable, with players able to purchase homing missiles and extra time on the rocket boost. The base price of the Starling is $3.67 million, which is increased the more upgrades players purchase for it.
