In 2003 LEGO Interactive partnered with veteran British developer Traveller’s Tales to create the first title, in what would become a series of video games based on licenses that The LEGO Group had. The first project, LEGO Star Wars, was a no brainer. Almost 15 years later, the partnership between LEGO Interactive and Traveller’s Tales, now TT Games, has produced a total of 23 video games with number 24 due out in just a few weeks. The only sensible thing to do at this point is rank those games and find out what the best LEGO Game is.
I have been a HUGE fan of LEGO games since day one. LEGO has played an important role in my life for as long as I can remember. Having interactive versions of, arguably, the greatest toy every created was a dream come true. The LEGO games are family friendly and focused on a wider audience than most hardcore games. Even still, I find myself always excited when a new game is announced.
Before we jump into the list, I wanted to make a few admissions. First, I am currently playing through LEGO Ninjago The Movie: Video Game. Since I have not completed the game yet, I have left it off of the following list. Second, LEGO Marvel Super Heroes 2 is launching in November. It’s a safe bet that it will make the top 10 list once it’s launched, but will be left off of this list for obvious reasons. Finally, I have not had the chance to buy or play LEGO Worlds yet. I hear good things, but since I am uninitiated, LEGO Worlds is also absent from this list. My goal is to finish LEGO Ninjago, buy and finish LEGO Marvel 2, and buy and finish LEGO Words by early 2018. At that point, I will update this list as the “2018 Edition” and include those 3 games in my ranking.
