A long time ago, we used to argue about who the best James Bond was. These days, though, it’s all about Batman. Ben Affleck picked up his own dedicated fanbase, but even they haven’t seen his best work as the Caped Crusader, Ben Affleck said in a new interview with The Herald Sun (via IGN).

Playing Batman was tough on actor Ben Affleck, and he talked in early 2020 about how the experience of filming the original, heavily re-shot Justice League helped push him toward a relapse with alcohol. That ultimately led to Affleck stepping away from first directing, and then starring in the planned standalone Batman film, with Matt Reeves and Robert Pattinson stepping into those respective roles with an all-new script.

Now, though, while Affleck confirmed during the interview that he’s done playing the character, he also said that filming The Flash was his favorite experience while playing the character.

“I have never said this–this is hot off the presses–but maybe my favorite scenes in terms of Batman and the interpretation of Batman that I have done, were in the Flash movie,” Affleck said. “I hope they maintain the integrity of what we did because I thought it was great and really interesting–different, but not in a way that is congruent with the character.”

“Who knows?” Affleck continued. “Maybe they will decide that it doesn’t work, but when I went and did it, it was really fun and really, really satisfying and encouraging, and I thought, ‘Wow–I think I have finally figured it out.”

The Flash scenes, Affleck said, “put a really nice finish on my experience with that character,” echoing comments he made back in October 2021.

The Flash brings together Ezra Miller’s Barry Allen/The Flash with both Michael Keaton and Ben Affleck’s version of the Caped Crusader, as well as debuting Sasha Calle as Supergirl. The film will also reportedly bring back Michael Shannon and Antje Traue as General Zod and Faora, who they first played in Man of Steel. The Flash is set to hit theaters on November 4, 2022.
