Colin Jost, longtime SNL writer and Weekend Update anchor, and his brother Casey, are heading down into the sewers for their next project. The pair are set to write the next, currently untitled, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles film for Paramount, according to Deadline.

Information is as hard to find right now as a Ninja Turtle hiding in the dark, but Michael Bay is once again back to produce, along with Andrew Form, Brad Fuller, Scott Mednick, and Galen Walker. All five acted as producers on 2014’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles reboot and its sequel, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows. Last we’d heard, a new Ninja Turtles flick was in the works with Andrew Dodge (Bad Words) writing; this appears to be a new or at least overhauled project.

The film will almost certainly be a reboot. After the poor box office pull for Out of the Shadows, Form indicated in a 2016 interview with Collider that a third movie of that particular iteration of everyone’s favorite pizza-eating amphibians was unlikely. It probably won’t be a musical, though.

If you prefer your turtles animated, you’ll be happy to hear that another TMNT project is in the works, too. Actor and producer Seth Rogen is working with Nickelodeon to create an animated Turtles movie set to release in 2023. Jeff Rowe, who directed the well-received Netflix animated movie the Mitches vs. The Machines, is helming that project.
