The Cuphead Show, Netflix’s animated series based on the popular indie video game, is returning for a second season. Studio MDHR and Netflix have confirmed the sophomore run is in the works and it will debut this summer on the streaming platform.

The announcement of Season 2 comes just weeks after Season 1 debuted in February. Studio MDHR said there will be more “heartfelt hi-jinx and hilarity” in Season 2, but that’s all we know so far.

The Cuphead Show is developed by Dave Wasson, who previously made the animated shows Time Squad and Star vs. The Forces of Evil.

GameSpot’s review of The Cuphead Show rated the show a 9/10. “The Cuphead Show pays homage to both classic cartoons and the beloved 2017 game. The short and sweet episodes are loaded with laughs and heartwarming moments,” reviewer Steven Petite said. “The animation is superb, and the voice actors bring rich personalities to characters who were previously voiceless. The show stands on its own while also being filled with fun nods to the game–without ever feeling like unnecessary fan service.”

As for the game, Cuphead was originally released in 2017 and is now available on all major console platforms, in addition to PC. The game has sold more than 6 million copies, and an expansion, The Delicious Last Course, is coming this summer alongside Season 2 of the show.
