Death Stranding: Director’s Cut is coming next month, and we got a new look at the upcoming PS5 release during the Gamescom Opening Night Live presentation. The lengthy video showed off more details about some of the new gear and features coming in the Director’s Cut.

We saw the Cargo Cannon in action, firing boxes of cargo long distances so you don’t have to carry it all on your back. If you do want to carry them on foot, it doesn’t have to be your own feet, as you can offload the carrying tasks to your new BuddyBot. There will also be new story missions, like one that was shown of Sam investigating a mysterious facility and finding evidence of the people who were once there.

The game will also add a firing range in the basement of the facility where you can train for high scores. Those will let you compete with other players in an online ranking system. You’ll also be able to compete with other players in the new race track time time trials. If you’d rather just ride for fun, you can use a jet pack or stunt your vehicles off of ramps. The presentation even showed this combining with the photo mode to snap a picture of Sam in the middle of a motorbike jump.

As the name suggests, this is a re-release of the 2019 game, with visual upgrades on PS5 along with new combat and traversal tools. The Director’s Cut first debuted at Summer Game Fest, another event hosted by Geoff Keighley. Death Stranding: Director’s Cut launches on September 24. Those who own the PS4 version digitally can upgrade to the PS5 digital deluxe version for $10.
