It’s a big day for Destiny 2, as Bungie will be launching The Witch Queen DLC across all platforms. However, in the meantime, it’s taken servers down for maintenance, meaning it’s not currently possible to play Destiny 2. We’re less than an hour away from servers coming back if all goes according to schedule. Here’s when The Witch Queen releases and how to get downloading–although PS4 players will unfortunately have to wait due to a required content bug. [Update: Servers are now back online, although as expected, you will likely encounter server queues if you try to get in right away. You’ll simply have to be patient and wait through those to begin playing.]

What time does Witch Queen release?

  • 9 AM PT
  • 12 PM ET
  • 5 PM GMT
  • 4 AM AET (February 23)

Bungie has already warned players that there will be server queues, so you shouldn’t necessarily plan your entire day around being able to get right in. As always, there will be a flood of players trying to get in to check out all of the many new features and additions, which include the Void 3.0 system, a campaign centered around Savathun, a new weapon crafting system, and more.

Preloading for the update is available, so be sure to try opening the game to verify you have it downloaded in advance. You’ll see a new title screen (and accompanying theme song) to know you have update 4.0.0.1 installed. Full Destiny 2 4.0.0.1 patch notes are now available (and they’re as long as you’d expect).

Destiny 2 PS4 required content issue

Destiny 2 players on PS4 will be required to download all associated Destiny 2 required content before playing The Witch Queen, which should be doable right now. However, an “unforeseen issue” means that players are not receiving “required content” files, and they will not be downloadable until 9 AM PT. At that point, the 72 GB in files will be downloaded. This will essentially reinstall the entire game and its related content, but Bungie noted that the game will have a smaller installation size once the download is complete, which in turn will help improve the download and installation of future PS4 patches. Other platforms will download a more standard update–on PC, it weighs in at about 21 GB.

In the meantime, you can make sure you’re prepared for the events of the DLC by checking out our Destiny 2 story recap, which goes through the events of the past year-plus, from Beyond Light up to The Witch Queen.
