If you’re tracking down every spell in Elden Ring, you’ll need to find the Academy Crystal Cave dungeon so that you can obtain Crystal Release. This cleverly-hidden little cave in Liurnia of the Lakes has a double boss fight to deal with, but don’t worry–we’ll tell you how to get there and fill you in on your best options for defeating them.
Crystal Release explained
Crystal Release is a sorcery that requires 41 Intelligence to cast. It showers an area with magical stars in a small area, making it a fairly mediocre choice for most sorcerers.
Crystal Release’s item description reads:
Sorcery of the mysterious Crystalians. Creates a mass of crystal, then shatters it to scour a wide area with a violent rain of crystal shards. This sorcery is used by high-ranking adepts among the Crystalians. Some also call this sorcery “the Crystal Sun.”
Where to find Crystal Release
Crystal Release is obtained by defeating the two Crystalians at the end of Academy Crystal Cave dungeon in Liurnia of the Lakes. This dungeon is well-hidden behind Raya Lucaria Academy in the middle of the region, and it will require a Stonesward Key to open.
Academy Crystal Cave
Once inside the dungeon, you’ll be faced with a variety of sorcerers and rats to contend with. If you’re leveled up just a bit and take things slow, though, you shouldn’t have much trouble handling them. When you reach the end of the dungeon, you’ll face a double boss fight against some Crystalians.
The Crystalians are weak to Strike attacks, so be sure to bring weapons like hammers or axes to break their stance. After you’ve done so, they’ll be far more susceptible to other types of damage. Their attacks are simplistic, so the fight is really just a matter of keeping your distance, separating the bosses, and wailing away when possible. Once they’re dead, you’ll receive Crystal Release as a reward.
