Actor Dave Bautista has said goodbye to his Guardians of the Galaxy character, Drax, following the end of filming for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, which is expected to be his final performance in the role.

Posting on Instagram, Bautista shared a photo of himself with writer-director James Gunn and his castmates, including Sean Gunn, Pom Klementieff, Chris Pratt, and Karen Gillan. He also included a caption that referenced the end of filming and how sudden it all felt.

“Haven’t found the words yet. It ended so suddenly and I was on to my next film before I could process it all. End of a journey that changed my life,” Bautista said.

Gunn has said Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is the third act in the trilogy that began with the 2014 film. If the series does continue with a fourth film, Bautista is unlikely to be a part of it.

He told Ellen Degeneres in 2021, “We work in trilogies, and James Gunn has already announced that it’s his last film and when James is done, I’m done.” (via Variety)

Filming on Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is now complete, following 100+ days of shooting and more than 3000 shots.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is slated for releases in theaters in May 2023. The latest Marvel movie is Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, which conjured up $450 million at the box office this weekend worldwide. After that comes the Ms. Marvel TV series in June and then Thor: Love and Thunder in July.
