Actor Nicolas Cage may have cemented the likelihood we will be seeing a The Batman sequel by mentioning in an interview out at SXSW that he wants to oppose the Caped Crusader as Egghead–a character originated in the 1960s Batman TV series. Local news channel FOX 7 Austin recently spoke with Cage in connection with his upcoming film The Unbearable Weight Of Massive Talent.

“We have this new [movie with] Robert Pattinson as The Batman, which I’m excited to see. I haven’t seen it yet but I think he would be terrific,” Cage said. “The villain that Vincent Price played on the ’60s show, Egghead, I think I want to have a go at Egghead. I think I can make him absolutely terrifying. And I have a concept for Egghead. So let them know over at Warner Bros., I’m down for Egghead.”

Like Calendar Man, Egghead–and his countless egg-related puns and weaponized egg contraptions–has over the decades earned a rightful place among the worst villains to grace the Batman franchise. However, and it really doesn’t need to be said, if anyone can redeem and reimagine him in a worthy manner, it would perhaps be a task only Cage could achieve.

The extremely meta The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent, which features Cage as a heightened version of himself being recruited by the CIA to kill a drug kingpin/his biggest fan, is due to open in theaters on April 22.

The Batman opened on March 3. You can read our review roundup and the many critical opinions of the superhero film here.
